Horse Question..../Opinion Needed?

im goin to a camp that has a "halterclass you can enter to compete in" its not really about the breed or the movements, but how well the horse has been groomed and preented.

1) should i pick my fave, eventhough hes sorta old and dosent raise his head high? he and one other horse (out of 89) is a buckskin, and has a beautiful coat.

- or pick the cute black pony

- or pick the draft vaulting horse (palomino)

- or pick the arabian that is most likeley to win cause people take sugh good care of him becase he pretty...

2) with the horse that i pick, should i slightly plait his tail(and/or)french braid his mane?

3) would braids look to awkward...(it is a western camp)

4) any hints 4 grooming?!?!?!|||This sounds like a showmanship class. I would pick the horse with the best coat and body condition. You can't make up for a bad coat bay giving a poorly conditioned horse a bath.

Next for hints.

1. Give him a bath if possible. Do it early enough in the day that he can be throughly dry for the show.

2. Brush and comb him well with clean brushes and a rub rag to work up a shine. Use a LITTLE mineral oil or Baby oil on his mane. You don't want greasy just to help get out tangles.

3. White markings? We use a little baby powder or cornstarch on them. Powder on and brush off, be sure to wipe excess off of the rest of the body. Only do this close to show time.

4. Wipe face, around eyes, inside ears and inside nostrils gently with a damp cloth. Then just before show time wipe again with a clean cloth dampened with just a little bit of baby oil.

5. Spray with fly spray. So he can stand and be beautiful without stamping flys.

6. As far as braiding is concerned you could brain his main and tail while he is wet and then take out the braids (like curlers) to have a wavy tail and mane.

Good luck and mostly remember to have FUN!|||go with the arabian if hes so pretty then it would make sense to take him.

I would braid his mane yes and maybe goh half way down on his tail and leave the rest down if possible. just make sure hes clean. good luck!|||pick your fave( old one), a horse shouldn't raise his head high, should be slightly higher than horizontal should be perfect.age don't matter. groom his mane and tail, but absolutely NO BRAID WHATSOEVER! for grooming: take curry comb and brush in circles aggainst hair. then take bristle brush and brush in short strokes in direction of hair while flicking the dirt and loose hair of body start top to end for bristle brush. are you able to put hoof polish on their hooves? blachk on black hooves, clear for white hooves.|||you have too much money..so I dont care its just a freakin ribbon get over it Paris|||The class you are referring to is called Grooming and Showmanship. It is judged on how well you clean and present the horse. What the horse needs to do is stand quietly with weight evenly distributed on all four legs, jog along side of you, and make neat turns. You need to dress appropriately and have your horse clean and trimmed and listening to you. Pick the horse you like best. If you show in Western attire, your horse's mane should be pulled short or banded. No plait in the tail. If you show English, the mane should be pulled short or braided. If the horse is an Arab, Morgan or other breed normally shown with a long mane, you can do a running French braid for English or just have it nicely combed out for Western.

For a grooming tip, be sure the whiskers, ears, fetlocks and bridle path are neatly trimmed. Feet should have hoof polish. There are products available to give the hair a high gloss finish, and you can use a bit of baby oil or vaseline on the muzzle and around the eye for a nice polished look.|||The best way is to ask the judge what he/she thinks.|||Take the Arabian because the more that people take care of him the better chance you will have to win. dont do his mane but braid his tail halfway down. dont do any HUGE braids. Make shure you use the curry come really good to get all the dirt out. You will do great.
